The move to New Mexico felt a lot like the move to North Carolina: both times we moved with a very young baby. The traveling part of it was pretty rough, not going to lie. I think the unpacking of everything probably went more quickly and smoothly in New Mexico because of all the practice I’d had the last few years though!

I’m thankful for our choice to live on base at Cannon AFB. We have met so many great people on the loop we live on, and it’s been so great for our boys to have friends so close! When we arrived at Cannon, it was similar to arriving at Laughlin: Andrew had to leave for training almost immediately. This time it was in Washington state, and this time I had my mom with me to help. It was still hard to manage a newborn, a toddler, and boxes upon boxes of belongings.

I got busy getting us settled in at Cannon as quickly as I could. I found a playgroup to join, got Gerrit enrolled in a preschool program, and started setting up our house. Just like at Laughlin, a solid playgroup made a world of difference in my life. It was a great way to meet people, learn more about the base and town, and just be able to talk to other moms.
Fast forward… we’ve been at Cannon AFB for over 4 years now! This is the longest we’ve lived anywhere since Andrew joined the Air Force, and it’s definitely home for our boys. As Berend moved out of the baby stage and into the toddler phase, we started traveling and exploring the area we’re living in, and I’m hoping to share some of those adventures soon!
