Moving to Little Rock, Arkansas was a tiny but significant blip on our military adventure! When we found out that Andrew was assigned to the AC-130 W at Cannon AFB in New Mexico, we assumed our second baby would be born there. But then we had to consider Andrew’s 4 month training to complete in Little Rock… in the months surrounding my due date. After a lot of discussion and looking into our options, we decided the whole family was going to briefly move to Arkansas!

Things actually worked out really well for this temporary stay: we were able to get a house on base with rental furniture (which was already in the house when we arrived). All of our belongings were packed up and sent on to New Mexico minus the stuff we crammed into our two cars. Talk about minimalist living!

Being in Little Rock was a great break between Del Rio, TX and Clovis, NM. For one, it was so GREEN! We loved all the trees and green grass everywhere. It also had things we had been missing: lots of shopping, plenty of restaurants, and fun things like a zoo, children’s museum, and hiking. Since we moved to Arkansas when I was heading into my third trimester of pregnancy with Berend, Andrew did a lot of fun outings with Gerrit that I wasn’t up for or just to give me a break to rest. And after Berend was born, Andrew took Gerrit on a few long hikes, to the trampoline park, and more. It was so nice to have options!

Of course, the best part of our stay in Little Rock was adding Berend to our family. We arrived in Arkansas in mid-March, Berend was born mid-May, and then we were packing up to move to New Mexico mid-July. It was definitely a crazy whirlwind time of our lives, but we have lots of great memories of Little Rock, Arkansas.
