Turning Point!

I’m so excited to say that the past couple of days I’ve been feeling NORMAL! I mean, I still have the lower back pain, and I’ve been feeling more aching and tightening in my uterus area, but guess what I’m not feeling: nausea! I hope I’m not jumping the gun here, but I’ve had two days without nausea, and I am super excited about it. This might go along with that, but I’ve also noticed my appetite heading back to my normal level. Which means I may actually start enjoying cooking some good meals again (my menu planning has been really sad the past month).

So now to all of you (sisters, moms, aunties, grandmas, friends, and healthy-eaters in general): I am looking for quick and easy healthy meals. I have this book that I am going to start paging through, now that eating sounds pleasant again:
preg bookI’m excited to finally start looking through this book, but I also would like advice from all my favorite people. So things I don’t like: fish, nuts, beans (minus green beans), peas, and melon (minus watermelon). I also have a great grill master living with me (aka: the hubs) so bring on anything cooked on fire. I welcome one-pan meals and casseroles (hey, I’m a little lazy, guys), but a lot of my favorites are “comfort foods” and I’m looking for some that are more refreshing for summer. I need some good snack foods too… I’m going to try making hummus to replace my craving for salsa con queso, but other tasty snacks are welcome. So PLEASE pass along some yummy meal ideas for me!

Next I need my energy level to return completely so I can clean and organize this house! I’m eager to get some summer air in this house and get it nice and clean before it gets taken over by baby gear. 🙂

6 Weeks

Baby Kiel is the size of a sweet pea! Finally something I can see! 🙂 I feel like the growth from the past week must be the reason for feeling not-so-great. Nausea has been popping up randomly throughout Week 6 but no throwing up for me so far. It comes on when my stomach is empty, but it also happened right after I ate lunch one day. The only things that I can rely on are ginger ale, Sprite, saltine crackers, and bananas. Good thing I like all of those things! No real food aversions so far and no cravings either.

Definitely feeling tired, but it was also a long work week. I was working 7am-5pm, and I was so thrilled to sit down on the couch after we got home. I went to bed a little earlier than usual, and I was asleep very quickly! No racing thoughts for me… head on pillow and out! Craving naps on a daily basis…

Yes to lower back pain, yes to bloating, yes to breast tenderness. Basically feeling like a slow-moving fat person right now. Everyone says the 2nd trimester is better, and I’m looking forward to that! Starting to think I may need to stop lifting those big almost-two-year-olds in my class… they are heavy! Probably heavier than my 24 lb limit I’m supposed to be following. Oops.

Not missing my wine yet, but I’m feeling grumpy about ALL the things I’m not supposed to eat: deli meats, soft cheeses, bacon, sushi, runny eggs… Someone please tell me you ate these things and had a perfectly normal baby. I mean, I’m not talking about eating bacon every day, but cutting it out for 9 months?! Seriously?!

I’m not sure if I’m having mood swings yet, but I had a little breakdown at work this week. We had a very needy “hourly” care child (hourly = not a regular) who cried, and cried, and cried. That on top of our normal pre-toddler shenanigans (trying to climb on shelves, rolling up the rugs in the room, hitting/pushing/screaming) was enough to make me crack. I went to use the bathroom, and just started bawling. I didn’t even feel it coming on… I felt fine, and then boom! tears galore. Once I got that out of my system, I was much better. I just don’t know if the meltdown was because of the hormonal changes or if it would have been enough stress to make me break down on a normal day.

I had a rough end to week 6: my first episode of vomiting. 😦 And it happened right after my birthday dinner. We went out to my favorite local restaurant, and I struggled to eat my meal. I ended up taking half of my main course home, and then spent time hanging over the toilet. Gross.

4 Weeks

Well, according to my non-medical estimate, I hit 4 weeks on March 10.
IMG_1028Sorry, one more of my tests. 🙂 I was very excited that my third test turned “pregnant” so quickly.

IMG_1066That little speck there is a poppy seed, the approximate size of the embryo.

I spent the week feeling fairly good. Some lower back pain, some nausea, and then I got sick. I got home from work on Thursday feeling okay, but then I made dinner and couldn’t eat it. I was in the bathroom throwing up not long after. At first I was worried it was morning sickness, but then I was in the bathroom later throwing up and having diarrhea. Ugh, I felt awful. But I tried going to work the next day (not a good idea) only to go home early and take a 4-hour nap.

I decided it was definitely just a stomach virus on Saturday when Andrew ended up throwing up too. I felt so bad for getting him sick, but a little relieved that I wouldn’t be throwing up like that for the next few weeks (hopefully)!

IMG_1030It’s crazy to think that Baby Kiel is currently only the size of a poppy seed. So teeny tiny!
