Baby #2: Week 29

This was our last week living in our house in Del Rio. The day I hit 29 weeks was the day we moved into a TLF house (temporary living).

How far along: 29 weeks on 13 March 2018
Approximate size of Baby:
the size of a butternut squash or a Barbie convertible (about 15.2″ long and 2.5 lbs)
Gender: No clue
Weight gain: 13 lbs
Symptoms: fatigue, back pain, eczema, eye issues, nasal congestion, nausea, SPD?, Braxton Hicks contractions
  • I was pretty tired this week. Between being big enough now to have to fully wake up to roll over in bed and the stress over packing to move, sleep has not been great.
  • Still limiting my contact lens use. I didn’t even try wearing them this week.
  • Nausea come and goes. Usually in the evening like it has been throughout this pregnancy.
  • I’ve definitely been overdoing it with lifting and bending while packing. I’ve had some pretty painful SPD symptoms on those days.
  • I’m still having BH contractions, but not like I was a couple of weeks ago.

Maternity clothes: All the time. Starting to pack up tshirts that are getting too tight as well.
Stretch marks: no new ones
Belly button in or out: in but getting shallow
Sleep: Depends on the night
Best moment this week: Moving into TLF! It feels good to have the packing done and be moved out of the house. Actually getting the packing done for Little Rock took a long time though. Andrew & I basically had to take shifts so one of us could hang out with Gerrit while the other got stuff done. I tried to be fairly minimal with packing, but Andrew has his work cut out for him next week when he has to pack up our cars.
Miss anything: Just feeling normal. I walk slowly, and it’s becoming a process to roll over in bed at night. Basically just feeling pretty pregnant.
Movement: A lot, especially when I have my midnight snack.
Cravings: I still have a green apple and some extra sharp cheddar cheese every night. I’m honestly surprised that this snack has remained a staple for me. I would have expected to have gotten sick of it by now!
Looking forward to: Getting settled in Little Rock — I’m really hoping my stress level goes down once the packing/traveling is behind us for awhile.

Baby #2: Week 28

Officially one whole week into the 3rd trimester! I had an OB appointment this week, and it was uneventful except for having to do the 1-hour glucose test. Still waiting on results, but hopefully no news is good news.

How far along: 28 weeks on 06 March 2018
Approximate size of Baby: the size of an echidna (about 14.8″ long and 2.2 lbs)
Gender: We don’t know, and I’m so back and forth on it! I really have no gut feeling here, I guess.
Weight gain: 10 or 11 lbs (my weight seemed all over the place this week)
Symptoms: fatigue, back pain, eczema, eye issues, nasal congestion, nausea, SPD?, Braxton Hicks contractions
  • My level of fatigue varies… some nights I sleep fairly well, and other nights I’m tossing and turning quite a bit. Same with naps. Andrew is great about letting me lay down and try to nap when I can, but there are days that I just can’t sleep.
  • Still limiting my contact lens use. I didn’t even try wearing them this week.
  • Unfortunately, nausea seems to be making a return. I’m hoping it’s not a regular thing, but it definitely was this week. Sometimes I feel hungry AND nauseated, and I’ve found the only thing that helps with that is a can of Sprite.
  • I’m self-diagnosing myself with a mild case of symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD). I was a little irritated that my OB brushed off my concerns regarding the pain I’ve been having, so I did more research on my own. Already after trying some of the suggestions to relieve the pain, I’m noticing it’s not as painful to walk, so hopefully I can keep the pain minimal since I have a few months to go yet.
  • Still having a lot of BH contractions in the evenings or any time I’m on my feet for awhile. My OB blew this off too, so I’m just continuing to try to stay more hydrated and take breaks to sit as often as I can.

Maternity clothes: All the time. And I even had to pack up a shirt that is too small already!
Stretch marks: no new ones
Belly button in or out: in
Sleep: Hit or miss
Best moment this week: Okay, this is a weird one, but my best moment this week was going to the dentist. It had been over 4 years since I had gone to a dentist, so I was long overdue, and I had been meaning to get Gerrit in for his first dental exam. I felt SO MUCH BETTER after having my teeth cleaned though! Sad day… they found 3 small cavities, so my cavity-free days are over. I wasn’t too surprised though after the neglect! Oh, and Gerrit did amazingly! He was excited and sat really well through his whole cleaning — I was so proud of him! No cavities for him, and we just got instructions to focus more brushing closer to the gumline.

Miss anything: Bending over haha
Movement: Definitely. I did my first “kick count” the day I hit 28 weeks, and I counted 10 kicks in just under 20 minutes. He/she is a mover!
Cravings: I still have a green apple and some extra sharp cheddar cheese every night. But the sweet tooth is still there… I find myself looking for something sugary to eat way more often than before this pregnancy.
Looking forward to: Packing! My lists are made, and now I’m just antsy to do it. I did pack the baby’s suitcase, so that made me feel better. I’m just eager to see how much room we’ll have and what I may need to leave behind.

Baby #2: Week 27

It’s the last week of the 2nd trimester! I can’t believe we only have 3 months to go, and I can’t believe we STILL have 3 months to go haha.

How far along: 27 weeks on 27 Feb 2018
Approximate size of Baby: the size of a bunch of bananas or a fennec fox (about 14.4″ long and roughly 2 lbs)
Gender: still a mystery!
Weight gain: 9 lbs
Symptoms: fatigue, back pain, eczema, eye issues, nasal congestion, nausea, aches, Braxton Hicks contractions
I wore them for only 4 hour the other day, and my eyes were so uncomfortable after that.
  • I’ve been having some nausea again, but very mild. I’ll start gagging when I’m brushing my teeth in the morning, for example, and some evenings I feel nauseated.
  • I think the general aches and pains of the 3rd trimester are already setting in. I feel like my whole pelvic region is just achey lately.
  • I’ve been having some long-lasting BH contractions. Instead of feeling them come and go, I just feel them come on and last for an hour or more. No real pain, just  uncomfortable. Trying to increase my water intake to help with this.

Maternity clothes: Pretty much all the time
Stretch marks: no new ones
Belly button in or out: in
Sleep: Hit or miss
Best moment this week: What did we even do this week? It’s been exciting seeing Gerrit’s new bed come together. Hoping it’s done in the next week so Gerrit can try it out before we move.
Miss anything: Bending over haha
Movement: Definitely
Cravings: Still loving the green apples and sharp cheddar! I picked up a box of Smorz cereal to indulge the sugar cravings as well as some seriously yummy frozen yogurt.
Looking forward to: My OB appointment this week and moving. I’m feeling the stress of getting ready to move (appointments, phone calls, organizing), and I’m ready to just put it behind us and feel settled again. For a few months anyway.
