Baby Update

18 Weeks

IMG_230418 weeks and Baby is the size of a coconut! He/she is about 5-1/2″ long now and weighs about 5.3 ounces. He or she can yawn now too!

How far along: 18 weeks
Gender: We don’t know… but Andrew keeps calling the Baby “him” so I try to balance it out with plenty of female pronouns. 🙂
Weight gain: 2 lbs (no gain this week)
Symptoms: Back pain, occasional headaches, and random nausea.
Maternity clothes: Definitely moving toward exclusively wearing maternity clothes. Maternity jeans are SO much more comfortable at this point, and I think I’m going to start phasing out my pre-pregnancy tops.
Stretch marks: No
Belly button in or out: in
Sleep: A little less comfortable lately. My hips have been getting sore, so I toss and turn more than usual.
Best moment this week: Andrew’s first Father’s Day! Not that we did anything, haha
Miss anything: Being able to NOT get 8 hours of sleep a night. I’ve been struggling this week for sure.
Movement: Once in awhile, but not on a daily basis yet
Cravings: Hummus with tortilla chips or Wheat Thins… at least it’s healthy! 🙂 Still craving (and giving in to) Dr Pepper too.
Looking forward to: our next ultrasound

Baby Update

17 Weeks

IMG_2289Baby is about 5″ long now and the size of a mango! I know it’s still small, but it seems really surreal that there’s something 5″ long hanging out in my uterus.

Now for a somewhat strange question: what do I do with this mango? Do you just cut it open and eat it? I’ve never purchased one before!

I had my first 2nd trimester appointment on the 10th of June. It was pretty uneventful. According to my chart, I lost 3 lbs since my last appointment, but I think I probably had more/heavier clothes on then, so I have no idea how accurate that was. According to my own scale, I’ve regained 2 lbs total (from what I lost early in pregnancy). We listened to the baby’s heartbeat, and it was 156 bpm… healthy baby, the doctor says!

How far along: 17 weeks
Gender: unknown
Weight gain: 2 lbs
Symptoms: Back pain, occasional headaches, but the nausea is decreasing! I’ve been feeling more tightening and firmness in my uterus area. So I did jump the gun a bit with saying I’m feeling all better… I still threw up one night after I went to bed (grr), and I am still struggling to eat in the morning. The morning thing isn’t so much nausea as just a lack of appetite.
Maternity clothes: I’m impressed that I’m still able to button my regular jeans…it’s just uncomfortable to do so! So during the week it’s either regular jeans with the Belly Button band or maternity jeans. Still usually wearing regular tops since they all have some stretch to them.
Stretch marks: No
Belly button in or out: in
Sleep: A little less comfortable lately. My hips have been getting sore, so I toss and turn more than usual.
Best moment this week: ANDREW CAME HOME!! The night he came home, I had him listen to the baby’s heartbeat with the Doppler I bought. The look on his face was priceless — he looked so happy & excited to hear our little one. 🙂
Miss anything: Sushi
Movement: On Tuesday, I started feeling something, but it was while I was driving, so I wasn’t giving it my full attention. Then a few hours before Andrew came home on Thursday, I felt some definite movement! Of all the descriptions I’ve read from others, I would say it felt like popcorn popping in my lower abdomen.
Cravings: Cook-out food: hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad… I want it all!
Looking forward to: our next ultrasound
I got bored and did a 17 week white board:
IMG_2302I’m not sure if I’ll start doing weekly updates now… but I’ll for sure do bi-weekly updates. 🙂

Turning Point!

I’m so excited to say that the past couple of days I’ve been feeling NORMAL! I mean, I still have the lower back pain, and I’ve been feeling more aching and tightening in my uterus area, but guess what I’m not feeling: nausea! I hope I’m not jumping the gun here, but I’ve had two days without nausea, and I am super excited about it. This might go along with that, but I’ve also noticed my appetite heading back to my normal level. Which means I may actually start enjoying cooking some good meals again (my menu planning has been really sad the past month).

So now to all of you (sisters, moms, aunties, grandmas, friends, and healthy-eaters in general): I am looking for quick and easy healthy meals. I have this book that I am going to start paging through, now that eating sounds pleasant again:
preg bookI’m excited to finally start looking through this book, but I also would like advice from all my favorite people. So things I don’t like: fish, nuts, beans (minus green beans), peas, and melon (minus watermelon). I also have a great grill master living with me (aka: the hubs) so bring on anything cooked on fire. I welcome one-pan meals and casseroles (hey, I’m a little lazy, guys), but a lot of my favorites are “comfort foods” and I’m looking for some that are more refreshing for summer. I need some good snack foods too… I’m going to try making hummus to replace my craving for salsa con queso, but other tasty snacks are welcome. So PLEASE pass along some yummy meal ideas for me!

Next I need my energy level to return completely so I can clean and organize this house! I’m eager to get some summer air in this house and get it nice and clean before it gets taken over by baby gear. 🙂
