Baby Update · Daily living

Turning Point!

I’m so excited to say that the past couple of days I’ve been feeling NORMAL! I mean, I still have the lower back pain, and I’ve been feeling more aching and tightening in my uterus area, but guess what I’m not feeling: nausea! I hope I’m not jumping the gun here, but I’ve had two days without nausea, and I am super excited about it. This might go along with that, but I’ve also noticed my appetite heading back to my normal level. Which means I may actually start enjoying cooking some good meals again (my menu planning has been really sad the past month).

So now to all of you (sisters, moms, aunties, grandmas, friends, and healthy-eaters in general): I am looking for quick and easy healthy meals. I have this book that I am going to start paging through, now that eating sounds pleasant again:
preg bookI’m excited to finally start looking through this book, but I also would like advice from all my favorite people. So things I don’t like: fish, nuts, beans (minus green beans), peas, and melon (minus watermelon). I also have a great grill master living with me (aka: the hubs) so bring on anything cooked on fire. I welcome one-pan meals and casseroles (hey, I’m a little lazy, guys), but a lot of my favorites are “comfort foods” and I’m looking for some that are more refreshing for summer. I need some good snack foods too… I’m going to try making hummus to replace my craving for salsa con queso, but other tasty snacks are welcome. So PLEASE pass along some yummy meal ideas for me!

Next I need my energy level to return completely so I can clean and organize this house! I’m eager to get some summer air in this house and get it nice and clean before it gets taken over by baby gear. 🙂

Baby Update

16 Weeks

IMG_2290Baby Kiel is the size of an avocado (about 4.5″)! Side note: It’s hard to be sneaky about measuring fruits and vegetables in the commissary. I probably looked a little silly…
He or she weighs 3-5 oz. now and his/her eyes are working.

How far along: 16 weeks
Gender: Leaning toward girl this week
Weight gain: 1 lb
Symptoms: Back pain, nausea, occasional headaches, and some cramping. And then I threw up (a lot) again one night… when will it stop?!
I feel like I should tell you that I’ve been conveniently “forgetting” to mention some more embarrassing symptoms. Constipation: my digestive system is backed up some weeks, but seems to do better other weeks. When it gets uncomfortable, I’ve been taking fiber gummies, and that helps! And going along with that: hemorrhoids. Ugh. Had these during mid-late first trimester, and they were BAD. Thankfully this hasn’t been an issue lately, but I’m afraid it will come back in the third trimester.
Maternity clothes: Just one pair of maternity jeans and my usual yoga pants on the weekend. I’m using the Belly Button band with one pair of jeans that still fit well.
Stretch marks: No
Belly button in or out: in
Sleep: Pretty good. I haven’t been getting up in the middle of the night as much, but it’s been taking me a little longer to get to sleep. But since I switched to opening shift, it’s still fairly light when I go to bed… that might have something to do with it.
Best moment this week: Getting my fetal Doppler in the mail! Waiting so long for my next doctor appointment was driving me nuts, so it was nice to hear the baby’s heartbeat again.
Miss anything: Andrew, of course.. and sushi. It just looks and sounds really good right now!
Movement: I’m not sure… I guess I’ll say no for this week.
Cravings: Sushi (see above) and chips with salsa con queso… it really hits the spot! I’ve been craving some caffeine too: Coke and Dr Pepper give me the energy boost I’ve been needing and get rid of the headaches… score!
Looking forward to: Andrew coming home! And just in time for our next OBGYN appointment!
And now for my 16 week belly bump picture:

I definitely feel like my tummy is feeling firmer, and I think I can feel my uterus expanding upward. I love actually noticing some changes! I’m thinking I might start doing biweekly belly pics now that I’m actually showing… what do you think?
Baby Update

15 Weeks

IMG_2188Look at that big baby orange (about 4″ long)! 🙂 It’s exciting to see how much Baby is growing lately.
How far along: 15 weeks
Gender: Completely torn this week… I have no idea!
Weight gain: Still about the same.
Symptoms: Back pain, nausea, occasional headaches, and I threw up Thursday morning (first time it happened in the morning the whole pregnancy!). One symptom that I forgot to mention earlier: burping. I seem to have a lot of gas in my tummy!
Maternity clothes: Just one pair of maternity jeans and my usual yoga pants on the weekend.
Stretch marks: No
Belly button in or out: in
Sleep: totally fine..except for my middle-of-the-night potty trips
Best moment this week: Getting my one pound of pink Starburst candies in the mail. 🙂 And getting my “baby’s going home” outfits in the mail (yes, I’ve been a little addicted to online shopping).
Miss anything: Andrew. I had a 3-day weekend (Memorial Day), and it was not as relaxing and enjoyable as I wanted it to be. Yes, I relaxed, but I got bored and a little anxious-feeling by Monday. A quick trip to base to run errands and phone calls to family helped though.
Movement: I don’t think so, but I’m excited to feel something!
Cravings: Hm, nothing really. I’m not really craving this, but fruit snacks have been helping me get my prenatal vitamins down: fruit snack, quick swallow vitamin, then a few more fruit snacks. Not sure why, but it works! Still enjoying chips and salsa and my pink Starburst candies too. 🙂
Looking forward to: My next appointment… I feel like it’s been awhile since I’ve been to the doctor.
